Information technology workers defy the concept of working only four days a week, but earn higher wages than other industries. Now the controversy has arisen that Narayan Murthy, the founder of Infosys, a renowned company in the IT sector, has recently said that Indian youth working in this field should work 70 hours a week. That is an average of ten hours a day. No Sunday!

Narayana Murthy wants to say that forget rest and relaxation, work hard, stay strong. They say we need to increase capacity and production in a disciplined manner. Narayan Murthy, who is the father-in-law of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, says that the people of India need to change their working style. If we want to compete with the countries of the world, we have to change the work culture, that's right, we have to work even on holidays. Only if this happens, the country will be able to compete with the world.

Narayan Murthy has said very boldly that we cannot compete with developed countries unless government corruption is reduced and if the government postpones decisions instead of taking quick decisions.

He has appealed to the youth of the country. They say, the youth should understand that this is my country and I will work 70 hours a week. After World War II, Germany and Japan were cited as leading by working longer hours for several years. There is really no substitute for hard work.

On the one hand, the IT sector talks about reducing the working days and diverting the brain to other activities. The reason given is that if the brain remains fresh, the creativity of the employee can be used to the maximum. On the other hand, Narayan Murthy, who made the name of Infosys known around the world, is insisting on working 70 hours a week.

At present there is a Saturday-Sunday holiday in the IT sector. Working five days a week and two days off. If you don't want to miss the weekend, as per Narayan Murthy's suggestion, you should work for 70 hours in five days. That is an average of 14 hours a day! How much creativity can be expected from those who work on the computer for 14-14 hours a day? In this situation, the concept of working only four days in a week has to be completely forgotten. 17 hours a day can be a little work? Working 17 hours out of 24 hours is ridiculous.

Information Technology sector offers higher salaries as compared to other sectors. India's IT sector is catching up with the IT sector of the world. The changes taking place in the global IT sector have a direct impact on the Indian IT sector as well.

In 2022, the turnover of India's IT sector was 49 billion dollars, which is expected to reach 51 billion dollars in 2023. Hundreds of IT engineers from India are doing important work in America's Silicon Valley.

Not everyone agrees with Narayam Murthy because there are many fields where people work for 10 hours regularly. Despite the longer working hours, there is no rapid growth in these sectors. Thus, it cannot be agreed that working more hours will increase productivity.

Narayan Murthy, who is considered as an IT celebrity, has worked continuously throughout his life. His wife Sudha Murthy has publicly said that Infosys means Narayan Murthy and I have often felt that Narayan Murthy means Infosys. He has worked tirelessly and that is why the foundation of Infosys is strong.

Non-IT sectors work around 60 hours per week. There is a stark difference between the work culture of government sector and private companies in India. While plagiarism is rampant in government offices, performance is highly valued in private companies.
