The specter of Bhopal gas scandal resurfaced, demand to take action in America too

- Strict demand of 12 members of the US Congress

- Occasional

- The accident will complete 40 years in December but no action has been taken against the company

The entire India remembers the Gozaro Day of 2-3 December 1984 when thousands of people died in their sleep due to the toxic gas leaked from the Union Carbide Company in Bhopal. Thousands of people came under the effect of this poisonous gas. Many attempts were made to cover up the incident. 12 members of the US Congress have written to the Department of Justice on September 12 to issue a summons on Dow Chemicals to take action against the company which is considered responsible. Despite repeated summonses by the Indian court, the company authorities do not appear. Union Carbide's current owner is Dow Chemicals. MPs who wrote to the US Department of Justice wrote that under the Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement, a notice could be issued to the Dow company on criminal matters.

The owner of the company in the Bhopal gas scandal, known as the worst industrial accident of the 20th century, was supposed to appear before the Bhopal court on October 4 after the seventh summons, but he did not come. On the other hand, 12 members of the US Congress have raised objections against the fact that America has not made any special effort to take over Dow Chemicals and registered their opposition to the Department of Justice. These members wrote to Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monecon. It is welcome that America's top brass is concerned about the loss of lives in India and is asking the court to take action.

12 members of Congress have written that the country's reputation is being tarnished for not issuing summons to Dove Chemicals. Among the signatories of this letter are Rashida Talib, Pramila Jaipal and Frank Peloni Jr. Next December, Bhopal Gas Durdhatna will be 40 years old. The shocking thing is that no action has been taken against the people who are responsible for this crime and their responsibility has not been determined. The case is still going on and the owners of Dove Company are not appearing despite seven summonses issued by the Bhopal court. Under the Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement dated October 17, 2001 with India, action has been requested against Dow Chemicals. According to legal experts, the owners of Dow Chemicals could have been prosecuted if they had been caught instead of being driven away during the gas disaster.

A gas leak called methyl isocyanate killed 7,000 people and another 15,000 people died as a result. Its effects were so severe that thousands of people suffered from kidney diseases, cancer, and neurological diseases for a long time. Many young children of that time were born under the influence of mental diseases. After its owner was chased away in the Bhopal gas scandal, the whole case continued to be dogged. Union Carbide Company paid 470 million dollars to the Government of India in 1989 to the victims of the Bhopal gas scandal. The affected did not get any benefit from this relief. Because the effect of poisonous gas was bothering people for a long time. The surrounding land became barren as the chemical debris like debris fell into the ground in the company.

No one thought about his return. The Supreme Court rejected the case seeking further relief from Union Carbide. Now, however, there are calls to take action against Dove Chemicals in America. The Bhopal gas scandal was a challenge to India. There have been allegations that the state government and the central government of the time had given Anderson, the owner of the company, a passage to escape.
