On the last day of Vikram Samvat, there is a resolution to be taken with all heart - to preserve the mother tongue

- To the point-Ajit Parrot

According to Hindu Panchang, today is the last day of Vikram Samvat 2078. Chomere is showering hail of joy. Firecrackers, pyrotechnics and writings of the past year are happening in ten directions. On the eve of such a festival, a thought keeps coming to mind. Some friends have been discussing Gujarati language on social media for some time now. Very good thing.

It is a bitter truth that Gujarati people do not care much about their mother tongue. When two Bengalis or two Marathi people meet, they start talking in their mother tongue. When Gujaratis meet, they either start speaking the Tapori dialect of 'Munnabhai MBBS' or throw around in English.

One of the reasons for this may be that the number of deportations increases at night rather than during the day. Businessmen, IT experts, young people dreaming of becoming rich overnight make plans to settle in America, Canada or Australia. If you want to go and settle in a foreign country, you should have a good command of the English language. So there is some indifference towards the mother tongue. They do not want to insult or ignore the mother tongue. Inadvertently, the mother tongue is neglected.

It has been said once before from this place that the only Daudi Vahora is a community and society where the head religious guru Syedana Sahib has given clear words to his crores of followers - yes, not instruction, he has ordered that your children read, speak and write Gujarati language, you are a true Daudi Vahora. Syedana Sahib has even established an institution in Surat where the Quran Sharif is revealed in pure Gujarati. This is love of language.

Sometimes one wonders how so much love for the mother tongue could have been manifested among the Marathi and Bengali people. Marathi writers, Marathi dramatists, singers and musicians themselves openly promote the mother tongue. The same can be said for Bengali writers or artists. Who knows why the Gujarati people do not show the same love as mother's milk towards their mother tongue.

The new year of Vikram Samvat begins tomorrow. Everyone reading this must be taking some resolution. Can't a resolution be taken for the mother tongue? This is especially important for writers, poets and budding journalists.

Correct spelling, right place answar and grammatically clean language should be considered indispensable for any poet, writer and journalist. Of course, every professional must know Gujarati language. Even though regional dialects may differ slightly in pronunciation, the original mother tongue remains intact. Of course, one of our own poets has written in a taunting way - Gandi Gujarat, agu se laat, pichu se baat... We all should destroy that charm together. That much can be required for a mother tongue like Ma.

Gujaratis have a population of six and a half to seven crore people. People who have sufficient knowledge of alphabets may make some mistakes while writing. But it is an indispensable requirement for people who are graduates of different branches of knowledge to know the same mother tongue.

Many optimistic friends say that the Gujarati language, which has been running since Hemchandracharya, that is, for the last twelve hundred years, is going to be forgotten? It will be. There will be some wear and tear and the rest of the language will remain. Hope is immortal, but friends, don't you think that we all sincerely resolve for the preservation and nourishment of the mother tongue is the imperative need of today?
