- Even ten years ago, did anyone imagine that social media can be a 'career' and one can earn millions by making videos?

A young Muslim boy born in a small town in Palestine. His name is Nusser Yasin. Every year at her school, a Jewish teacher named Martha comes from America to teach the children English for a month or so on a completely voluntary basis. Sometimes his son is also with him. Special appreciation to Nusser English teacher. Nuser became friends with his son. After the teacher left for America, Nusser kept in touch with his son through email. One day Madam Martha said to him: Nuser, you come to America, be our guest. Teenage Nusser was delighted. He went to Martha Teacher's house, stayed with her family for a month. He got jealous.

The teacher saw that this boy's mind was very bright. He suggested: Nusser, you should visit the campus of Harvard University. Nusser says: What do I do when I go to the campus of Harvard? There are all super intelligent boys and girls. Martha teacher says: You go right. Another son of the teacher was studying at Harvard. Nusser went to Harvard, stayed on campus for a few days with the teacher's son. He saw that all these boys and girls were just like me. A jalsa was also held here in Nuser. Martha's teacher now gave him a third suggestion: Nusser, I think you should apply to Harvard!

When Nusser went back to Palestine, he had a pile of books with him. He built a chotli and started working day and night. A few months later he applied... and surprise, surprise! He got admission in Harvard and that too with a full scholarship. Exactly one year later, Nusser went back to Harvard. This time not as a visitor, but as a student. He graduated from this university, which is ranked among the best universities in the world. Got a degree and moved to New York and…

...and then he found a nice job and ate, drank and ruled, right? No! Now comes the real twist. Had it been twenty-five-thirty years back, Nusser would have surely landed a high-paying job in a good company, but Harvard graduate Nusser became a social media influencer! As of today, 26-year-old Nusser earns an average of 80 thousand dollars or 66 lakh rupees per month through social media. On this account, its annual earnings touch around eight crore rupees. He has 13.1 million subscribers on YouTube alone.

Even ten years ago, no one could have imagined that social media can be a 'career' and one can earn millions and millions of rupees by making videos themselves? You will say that this happened in America. Are there any social media influencers in India earning so little? stand up Just know the earnings statistics of local influencers. Bhuvan Bam, who makes funny videos with a mobile camera on in his hand and is now making money as an actor, is worth approximately 122 crores as of today. Ajay Nagar popularly known as Kerry Minati has an estimated net worth of 41 crores. Ranveer Ahlabadia, who has a net worth of 58 crores, earns approximately 35 lakh rupees every month. The charming Kusha Kapila has a net worth of around 20 crores, while the nutty Prajakta Koli (Mostly Sen) earns 40 lakhs per month with a net worth of 16 crores. Apart from these names, Mumbaikar Nikhil, Ashna Shroff, Kritik Khurana etc. are considered to be India's top social media influencers.

Tanmoy Bhate, who is very popular as a comic, says in a podcast, 'If you have a total of one crore followers-subscribers on different social media, you can earn more than 1 million dollars (roughly Rs. 82 lakhs) every year. '

Before the rise of social media, companies had only three major options for advertising: print media (magazines), electronic media (TV) and outdoor media (hoardings etc.). Now the age has gone digital and digital media occupies a significant portion of the total marketing budget. India's digital advertising industry was valued at Rs 47 billion in 2015, which has grown to Rs 571 billion by the end of 2022. It is estimated that this figure will reach 862 billion by the end of 2025. Now we are not talking about the entire digital media, but only influencers. So know that the size of India's influencer marketing industry in 2022 was around 12 billion rupees. By 2026, it will increase to 28 billion!

A social media influencer is simply a person who has a good following or subscribers on major digital platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. Their popularity or 'influence' is determined by how many likes, views and comments they get, how many shares, how much engagement they generate for each post, story, reel or short they put up. Advertisers and marketers approach and deal with these influencers to advertise different products or services on social media.

Different categories of social media influencers have been created. As such, someone with a few hundred to a few thousand followers is a nano-influencer. He can get one to five thousand rupees for placing a sponsored post on his social media account. A person with up to 50 thousand followers is a micro-influencer. It can pay 5 to 20 thousand rupees per sponsored post from the advertiser. An influencer with 50 thousand to five lakh followers falls in the mid-tier category, who can earn 20 thousand to one lakh rupees by placing a sponsored post. An influencer with five lakh to ten lakh followers is considered a macro-influencer. Big and small celebrities, TV stars, sportsmen (and women) etc. fall into this category. Relatively large brands have paid partnerships with them. They often become brand ambassadors and make event appearances. A macro-influencer's earnings are in the millions. Above all come the mega-influencers. His followers are in millions. Truly famous people like film stars, top cricketers etc. are called mega-influencers. Their fees for endorsements, brand collaborations, sponsored content etc can run into crores.

'I always believe in giving my brand more than expected,' says Prajakta Koli, 'like, if I have a deal with a company to put up three sponsored videos, I'll gently put in two extra posts. In this way, the relationship with the company becomes stronger. Many influencers jump from one brand to another in pursuit of money. For example, they will advertise three different brands of face-wash in a period of two months. The audience realizes that a few days ago this man used to say that so-and-so brand is the best and today he says that Dhinkani brand is number one! Doing so undermines the influencer's own credibility.'

Remember, it is not easy to earn even a little bit of millions as a social media influencer. For one, your content must have real energy, be willing to put in years of hard work, and take a lot of patience. When Nusser Yasin, who was mentioned at the beginning of the article, started posting videos etc. on social media, he did not earn a single penny during the first year. Rather, he blew his savings by making videos etc. Then little by little the dollars started coming in. When he earned ten thousand dollars a month for the first time, he thought that that's all, now I have become a king... But gradually his earnings increased and today his earnings have reached 80 thousand dollars a month.

It's good to be a sensible, or at least sensible, content creator. On the other hand, there are influencers like Carrie Minati, who has become popular by taking an outrageous amount of time in her videos. There are countless such creators. A third rate content creator can earn many times more than a dedicated job-business man is a victim of today's digital age!
