More violence in Manipur.

Despite the BJP government in Manipur, the necessity of President's rule has arisen, as the riots in Manipur cannot be calmed down by the state or the central government. The houses of two ministers of the state and the center have been burnt in Manipur. Mobs from two different communities roam the roads as messengers of death. If these miscreants playfully destroy the impenetrable shield of various types of security forces, then the discussion of the security of the common citizen is irrelevant. A number of houses have been set on fire, there is a BJP government at the center and BJP is in power as a state government in Manipur as well.

A term coined by Amit Shah for where there is BJP both in the state and at the center is double engine, but in Manipur those double engines are not running. Janjeevan's train has derailed. Over 100 innocent civilians have been killed by rioting mobs in the last one and a half months. The government fears that foreign funds are flowing into Manipur, so the bank accounts of the rioters are under intense scrutiny, as the Kuki community is found to have an unimaginable cache of weapons. The Kuki community are experts in armed attacks. Some people in the Kuki community have returned from Naxal training camps. Now there is a new twist in the agitation that the rioters are attacking the police station and security personnel and releasing their missing criminals.

These events confirm that the government has no control here. Naxalism is natural in every state and country close to China. Most of the hostels near the stadium in the capital city Imphal, which are now vacant, have been converted into relief camps. The government shelters innocent people who are on the run. There are 40 women in this hostel who are pregnant. She is separated from her family. Some have had their husbands killed in the violence of the riots and some are currently undergoing treatment in hospital. Lakhs of people across the state are now facing destitution, as the Maitei and Kuki communities have set fire to each other's settlements.

Just two days ago, the Union Home Office had convened an all-party meeting in Delhi. However, the meeting had to be called by the government after repeated representations by ten opposition parties including the Congress. The opposition raised concerns about the silence of the Prime Minister on the Manipur issue, but the Home Minister did not give any reply. At that time the government gave a long statement of self-preservation, but the fact is that the situation in Manipur is gradually getting worse. The Manipur High Court requested the state government to reconsider its ten-year-old demand to grant Scheduled Tribe status to the Maitei community.

This led to apprehensions among the Scheduled Tribe communities that the government may grant the Maitei community the status of a Scheduled Tribe and if it does, the Maitei people may occupy the exclusive strip of land belonging to the Scheduled Tribe. The whole of Manipur is on fire right now because of this single issue. The Kuki and Naga tribes have taken over the entire state. Both these recognized Scheduled Tribes have got their rights. They are scared of the Manipur High Court's attack on the government. What if the Maitei people, who dominate as a majority of MLAs, grab everything? More than seventy thousand people have taken shelter in relief camps.

At present mainly the Kuki people have targeted the Maitei people. There are also some Muslims in Maitei, but they are quiet. Even the Naga people have not fallen openly against Maitei. Kuki are very intelligent, political and strategic people. Obviously the minority is always organized.
