Spare: Prince Harry's book on the British royal family

- Prince Harry has written a memoir in this book. There are many mentions of the Royal Family that keep the 'spar' in the limelight. Childhood experiences are particularly noteworthy. A unique record of fastest selling book has been recorded in the name of 'Spare'

When there was a monarchy around the world, it was a tradition to give the inheritance of the kingdom to the eldest son. Only in case the elder son could not take the kingdom, then the younger son got the kingdom. As a result inheritance in a dynasty is recognized in two ways - apparent inheritance and additional inheritance. If and only if the place of heir apparent becomes vacant, additional heirs i.e. heirs other than heirs apparent get the kingdom. In English such inheritance is called spare succession. There is a proverb in English referring to these two: The air and the spare.

The word spare is used colloquially there. Like spare tyre, keep in spare etc. The same word has become the title of a book by British Prince Harry. The name of the book is very suggestive. As Prince Harry is the second child of Britain's King Charles, he is not the heir apparent to the British throne. Prince Harry is fifth in line to the British throne. Currently, Prince William is the heir-apparent to King Charles-III. By that account, Harry is the spare heir and the tone of the book is the same.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth died at the age of 96 in September last year, setting the record for the longest reign. The crown of Britain then went to Queen Elizabeth-Prince Philip's eldest son Charles. The throne will then go to Prince William, the eldest son of King Charles. The next direct heir will be Prince William's eldest son George. William has three children, including George. Harry's number in the list of heirs comes after four lines, including William, so he will never have a chance to sit on the throne of Britain. As such, it will forever be an additional heir in the British Royal Family.

Harry's childhood has been in discussion for various reasons. Charles married Diana in 1981 but within a very short time the relationship between the two became strained. Both of them had an extramarital affair and it was discussed all over the world. Features and books have been written on Charles-Diana's relationship and extramarital affairs. Its splashes flew up to Harry. In the spare, Harry has pointed to it as well. After a few years of marriage, Prince Charles was rumored to be having an affair with Camilla Parker. Shortly thereafter, it was claimed in the British media that Diana was having an affair with British Army officer James Hewitt. Rumors have recently started that James Hewitt is the father of Diana's second son, Prince Harry. Some reports even published pictures of Prince Harry and Hewitt and found similarities between the two. Because of this, Prince Harry had to suffer a lot in his childhood. Charles and Diana separated in 1992 and Diana died in a Paris car accident in 1997. Charles married Camilla Parker in 2005, a decade after the incident. All these incidents are mentioned in 'Spare'. According to the book, Prince Harry was deeply traumatized by Diana's death in a car accident and had mental ups and downs throughout his teenage years.

A lot happened in childhood with brother William. There is a gap of only two years between the two. William was born in 1982 and Harry in 1984. But there was some distance between the two when they were young. The book focuses on the history of relations with the British Royal Family, British Army career and education.

Of father Charles and Camilla's relationship, Harry noted: 'Both of us brothers accepted father Charles' relationship with Camilla. But William was very confused to learn that Charles wanted to marry Camilla. The Royal Family allowed Camilla to live with the Royal Family on the condition that she not marry. Both of us brothers believed for years that Camilla was the main villain in the Charles-Diana relationship. However, Father Charles wanted Camilla to marry him. Both of us brothers were young and could think for ourselves. We thought that for Father's happiness we should accept the marriage. The Royal Family took our opinion seriously.'

On the family's attitude after he decided to marry American actress Meghan Markle, four years his senior, Harry writes: 'Elder brother William had a lot of arguments with me when he found out through the media that I was going to marry Meghan. William described the decision as rash. Advised to check patiently if both really love each other or not. At one point, William called Meghan a rude and abrasive woman. However, stepmother Camilla really helped with this.' In 2019, there were reports in the media that the conflict between the two brothers had escalated to a fight. Avoiding mentioning the incident, Harry notes: 'My intention was to present my truth. I have written this book not to bring out inner conflict, but to express my feelings.'

What is the relationship between Catherine and Meghan, the future Queen of Britain and Prince William's wife? Harry writes: 'The two have a cold but cordial relationship. During the preparations for the wedding, there were huge arguments between the two. During the rehearsal for the royal wedding, Catherine objected to a few things. It got to the point where Charles-Camilla stepped in and made a way out. But eventually both of them had a normal relationship. Charles himself strongly urged all the royal employees who witnessed this incident not to mention the incident to the media.

The book was published in January 2023, months before Queen Elizabeth's death and Charles's accession to the throne, and became a bestseller. The world has been interested in knowing the stories of the American Royal Family for years. Amanya Rajkumar writes his own memoirs, so the curiosity increases. Perhaps that is why this book of 416 pages has been recorded in the Guinness Book of Records for the highest sales in the non-fiction category in three and a half, four months. American novelist J. R. Mohringer has ghostwritten Harry's book in a lush style, which makes the book even more interesting.
