- Prestige question for Congress: First election after Rahul Gandhi's ouster

- Siddaramaiah

Rahul Gandhi is the talking point these days. Along with his controversy, Karnataka's Kolar seat is also in discussion. Rahul Gandhi had to leave the Lok Sabha due to caste criticism during his speech while campaigning on this seat. Congress is stunned, but people are discussing the Kolar seat.

The frenzy with which the opposition is currently united due to Rahul Gandhi being stripped of his MP post will have to be sustained till the Karnataka elections. The opposition cannot be kept together on one issue for long. Karnataka elections have not been announced yet, but every political party has started preparations. Both Congress and BJP have announced a list of their candidates.

Congress will now make the Kolar seat a prestige issue. Not only Kolar, but Karnataka will adopt all strategies to wrest the state from BJP by winning the assembly battle. It is believed that the opposition parties will unite and fight for Karnataka.

Rahul Gandhi's speech at the Kolar seat was not the talk of the town then, but now everyone wants to understand it. People are surfing the internet to listen to the speech.

People are eyeing the Kolar seat for two reasons. Firstly, Rahul Gandhi's parliamentary membership has been canceled due to his speech on this seat and secondly, there is a possibility that former Chief Minister of Karnataka and veteran Congress leader Siddaramaiah will contest the next election from this seat.

In Karnataka, the Congress has released its first list of candidates, in which Siddaramaiah is slated to contest from the Veru seat, but is said to be contesting from the Kolar seat as well. Siddaramaiah, who was the chief minister from 2013 to 2018, contested the elections from two seats in 2018. This time, Siddaramaiah says that he will contest from the additional seat that Movdimandal says. Kolar seat is not a stronghold of Congress, but now Congress believes that it will win this seat by trying to create a wave of sympathy for Rahul Gandhi.

Kolar is a town-level seat, with 40 percent of its population being from urban areas. In the 2018 assembly battle, Janata Dal (S)'s K. Srinivasan Gowda defeated the Congress candidate with a huge lead. Since the formation of the state of Karnataka, assembly elections have been held on this seat 14 times and Congress candidates have won only five times. In the last 30 years, Congress won this seat only once, i.e. in 2004.

Congress has no dominance in this seat, but when the opposition fights unitedly, Congress can gain more advantage in this seat. Opposition also has a chance to show unity in Karnataka. Says Gowda, who has won the Kolar seat four times, has a hold on voters. According to some reports, Gowda wants to give this seat to Siddaramaiah.

Unfortunately for the opposition, the regional party Janata Dal (S) in Karnataka is not ready to give its seats to anyone, as it wants to be the kingmaker. The importance of Karnataka for the BJP is that on the strength of its victory in Karnataka, it can influence voters in other southern states. BJP's entry in the south is also through Karnataka. So he will also fight fanatically to maintain power.

If the frenzy in which the opposition is united due to the removal of Rahul Gandhi's MP continues till the Karnataka elections, it may be the turn of the BJP to lose Karnataka. Whether the Congress wins or loses Karnataka, this being the first election after Rahul Gandhi's ousting of parliament, it will see various political moves by the opposition and the BJP to gain power.

A political set-up has been arranged such that the opposition in Karnataka will unite against the BJP and wrest Karnataka from the BJP, as the Congress has made the entire Karnataka a prestige issue along with the Kolar seat.
