Indians will be relieved if US visa waiting is reduced

Corona is the main reason for the high cost of American visas. The US Embassy says that the situation has worsened due to Corona. Due to the Corona epidemic, the US Embassy has been working with less staff for the last two and a half years, i.e. since March 2020. Apart from this, many restrictions have also been imposed so that the corona virus does not get infected.

People who want to go to America i.e. USA from India were troubled for the last few days because there is a very long waiting period for the US visa. Different offices of the US Embassy in India have different waiting periods for different categories but many categories have a waiting period of more than two years. Due to this, everyone from students who want to study in America to tourists who want to go for sightseeing are stuck. Many people have started doubting whether their desire to go to America will ever come true or not.

This hassle is unlikely to end as the US has promised to reduce the waiting period. Our Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is currently on a tour of America. During this trip, Jaishankar raised the issue of visa waiting period against the US Secretary of State i.e. Foreign Minister Antony Blinken. Blinken has assured that America has made a plan to reduce the waiting period and it will be implemented very soon, so the train will be on track in a few months. Blinken did not reveal what the plan is, but it seems that steps will be taken, including a shift to visa interviews in some categories or an increase in staff.

America reducing the visa waiting period quickly is not only in the benefit of Indians but also in the benefit of America. All others are fine but Indian students are the most stuck due to visa waiting. They will get maximum relief if the waiting period is reduced.

Studying in America is a better option than other countries of the world because earning opportunities are more in America. America is the first choice of most of the Indian students because they can make different careers in America and do not have to struggle for work after studying. At present there is a waiting period of more than one year in the student visa, so the student has to sit here and his year gets spoiled. If the waiting period is reduced, their income will be saved.

If the waiting period in America is reduced, it will benefit him in such a way that the visa fee is due to him, but the amount spent by the student in terms of tuition fee, living expenses, etc. will be received early, so that money will circulate in his economy. America's economy is very big, but considering that the money received from foreign students is not small, it also benefits. Corona is the main reason for the current high cost of American visas. The US Embassy says that the situation has worsened due to Corona. Due to the Corona epidemic, the US Embassy has been working with less staff for the last two and a half years, i.e. since March 2020.

Apart from this, many restrictions have also been imposed so that the corona virus does not get infected. When the fear of Corona was high, visas were completely stopped, but now the whole world has opened up and foreign travel has started to be done freely. America is heaven for Indians. From students who want to go for studies, to travel or to leave India forever and settle abroad permanently, everyone wants to go to America. Due to this, the demand for visas is booming in all categories, from students to immigrants. There is no staff to meet this humongous demand and on the other hand greed from America is not released. America earns money in the name of visa fee and takes new applications, there has been a rush of applications. Due to this the waiting period for visa appointment is increasing.

The problem is, this time period is overextended. US visa applications in India are processed at US embassies and consulates in different cities. There is a US embassy in Delhi while there are consulates in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Other cities have visa centers where certain categories of visas are issued.

The waiting period for US visa varies from city to city but in major cities, US visa in New Delhi has a waiting period of 833 days for visitor visa while student/exchange visitor visa is also 430 days. The waiting period for other non-immigrant visas is also 390 days.

Mumbai and Delhi have higher rush than other cities but other cities also have waiting period around the same. Not more than twenty-twenty-five days. This waiting period is said to be long, but the attraction for America is so strong that people continue to make new applications despite such a waiting period.

America offers the highest number of worker visas

There are many categories of visas granted by the US to foreign nationals. People who are going to visit their family or friends while living in America take a visitor visa while students going to study take a student visa. These two types of visas are extremely popular in India, but apart from this there are different categories of immigrant visas and visas for specially qualified people.

However, America gives the highest number of visas to workers. These visas include H-1B, H-2B, L and J category visas. H1-B is given to IT professionals while H-2B is a visa for non-agricultural workers. This visa is given for industries related to food and agriculture. These visas are given to companies who call laborers from outside for labor in transportation, food processing, etc. units. Citizens of African, Latin American countries are more in this labor work.

The L type visa is for manager or executive level employees of a US company working in another country. When these employees are transferred from another country to the US, an L-type visa is required. Even under this category, highly skilled workers are given a seven-year visa. Very few people from India go to America under this visa. Those who have a good job in an American company in India do not go to America.

If the company gives a transfer, you have to go, but very few people from India go to America with this visa. Type J visa issued by the US is for people coming to the US under the Cultural and Educational Exchange Program.

Many categories are exempted from visa interview

The visa waiting period at the American embassy may prove to be a boon for some categories of visa seekers as the US government is considering to waive the visa interview to reduce the waiting period.

The US Department of State i.e. the Department of State is currently issuing visas to applicants for F, H-1, H-2, H-4, Non-Blanket, L, M, O, P, Q and Educational J visas to the head of the American Consulate i.e. Consular. Power to exempt from interview has been granted. Now in some other categories also this concession can be given so that the burden is reduced in three months. Meaning, applicants for this category do not have to give an interview for the visa. This will save them both time and money. Now there is a possibility that this concession will be given till 31 December 2022.
