The killer of Batla House encounter, Sharma should have been hanged

- Many disappointed when the death sentence of a terrorist who killed an officer like encounter specialist Mohanchand Sharma turned into a death sentence.

- What happened after the Batla House encounter had never happened in the history of India. Leaders, media, human rights activists questioned the veracity of this encounter and started bashing the Delhi Police. Allegations that the police had killed an innocent Yuvona in a false encounter to rob Wahwah were rife. Congress leader Digvijay Singh alleged that Sharma was killed in the ongoing internal rivalry in the Delhi Police. Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party jumped to take advantage of this incident. He vehemently raised the issue by demanding an independent judicial inquiry. The National Ulema Council took an entire train full of people from Azamgarh to Delhi.

The case of Ariz Khan alias Junaid, accused of murdering Delhi Police Inspector Mohanchand Sharma in the Batla House encounter case of 2008, which caused a stir across the country, was pending in the Delhi High Court for a long time. The verdict came on Thursday and the High Court commuted Ariz Khan's death sentence to life imprisonment.

A local court in Delhi sentenced terrorist Sajjad Ahmad to life imprisonment for killing Mohanchand Sharma while Ariz Khan was sentenced to death. Ever since Ariz Khan challenged the sentence in the Delhi High Court, all eyes were on the verdict in the case. Mohanchand Sharma, who is accused of killing Ariz Khan, was a well-known encounter specialist in the Delhi Police. When the lower court awarded the death sentence to the terrorist who killed such a rogue officer, everyone felt it was right, but many are disappointed when the high court turned the death sentence into a death sentence. This frustration is being expressed on social media.

Bitter memories of the Batla House encounter case, which sparked huge controversy in the country, have been revived following the High Court's verdict. Controversy in police encounters is not a new thing in India, but the Batla House encounter case has not been the case in any other case.

Most of the encounters we have there are suspected and there are even court cases alleging that the encounters are fake.

The same thing happened in the Batla House encounter, but the entire country was stunned due to the question raised by the human rights activists and politicians against the police performance. From defending the terrorists who opened fire on the police who went to Batla House to the suspicions that Mohanchand Sharma was killed in an internal police rivalry, the case was made memorable.

The Batla House encounter was linked to the serial blasts in Delhi on September 13, 2008. After the first bomb blast in Delhi at 6 hours and 7 minutes in the evening, 4 bomb blasts took place at different places within few minutes. In this bomb blast, 30 people lost their lives while more than 130 people were injured. This bomb attack, carried out by the terrorists of Indian Mujahideen after realizing the conspiracy of Ariz Khan, shook the whole country.

Ariz Khan is a dangerous terrorist of Indian Mujahideen. Ariz was also involved in the bomb blast in Uttar Pradesh in 2007. Ariz was also involved in the serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad in 2008. After the bomb blasts in Delhi, the police got information that Ariz Khan was hiding in Batla House in Jamianagar, Okhla, Delhi along with his friends.

Police officers reached Batla House in the early morning of September 19, 2008 after receiving the information. At that time, the month of Ramzan was going on, so the police sent a team to investigate the presence of terrorists in Batla House in order to prevent anything unusual from happening. When a police team led by Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma of the Spasial Cell of Delhi Police went to Batla House, the terrorists opened fire on them, killing Mohan Chand Sharma on the spot.

Hearing the firing, another team immediately reached Batla House and killed two terrorists, Atif Amin and Mohammad Sajid, but Ariz Khan and Mohammad Shahzad managed to escape.

Two other terrorists Mohammad Saif and Zeeshan were caught. Yasin Bhatkal of Indian Mujahideen was also present in Batla House but managed to escape before the police team arrived. This came to light when Bhatkal was caught in 2013.

What happened after this encounter was unprecedented in the history of India. Leaders, media, human rights activists questioned the veracity of this encounter and started bashing the Delhi Police. Allegations that the police had killed an innocent Yuvona in a false encounter to rob Wahwah were rife.

There were also allegations that Sharma was killed in an internal rivalry within the Delhi Police. Congress leader Digvijay Singh himself made this allegation. Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party jumped to take advantage of this incident. He vehemently raised the issue by demanding an independent judicial inquiry.

The National Ulema Council took a whole train full of people from Azamgarh to Delhi. Protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar took over the whole of Delhi. Professors, students and locals of Jamia Millia University held a 'public hearing' about Batla House and concluded that the encounter was fake based on the statements of parents of the accused, witnesses and people.

An organization petitioned the High Court and the High Court handed over the investigation to the National Human Rights Commission. After two months in the report given by the commission, it came to a clear conclusion that Sharma was killed in a terrorist attack and that the police did not commit any atrocities.

When the trial began in Sharma's murder, TD of AIIMS. Dogara summoned to court for expert opinion. He explained how Sharma would have been killed with the help of animation. After nearly four and a half months of trial, the court finally convicted Shahzad and Ariz of Sharma's murder. Mohan Chand Sharma was posthumously awarded 'Ashoka Chakra', the highest peacetime gallantry award, despite attempts to tarnish Sharma's martyrdom by creating controversies about his death.

The Batla House encounter was a case of direct action against terrorists. Even though a top police officer was martyred during the operation, the casualties to prove the encounter fake were shocking. For political and other benefits, this encounter was given the color of communalism.

There are other terrorism cases against Ariz Khan. He may have escaped being tipped off in Sharma's murder case, but let's hope he doesn't survive in other cases.

After the blast in Gujarat, there was news of terrorists from Batla House

Terrorists associated with the Batla House encounter blasted serial bombs in Ahmedabad on July 26, 2008. 56 people died in 21 blasts in just 70 minutes while more than 100 people died. Atif Amin aka Bashir came to Ahmedabad with 11 people to carry out this blast and instructed where to place the bomb. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was made under Bashir's guidance.

These 12 terrorists of Indian Mujahideen went from Ahmedabad to Delhi by 'Rajdhani Express' on July 26 and serial blasts took place in Ahmedabad on the same day evening.

The Indian Mujahideen terrorist, Abu Bashar, who was arrested in this case, informed the Gujarat Police that the terrorists were hiding in Batla House, and the Delhi Police launched an operation.

Ariz was arrested after 10 years of Sharma's murder

Shahzad Ahmed and Ariz Khan, who escaped after killing Mohanchand Sharma in Batla House, managed to elude the police for a long time.

Shahzad Ahmad was caught from Lucknow in UP almost a year and a half after the incident, while Ariz Khan remained in hiding for a decade. Ariz Khan was caught from the Nepal border in 2010 after 10 years. Ariz Khan got married and settled in a village called Banbasa on the border of Nepal.

After escaping from Batla House, Ariz fled to Nepal and stayed there for a long time. As Nepal was a stronghold of Indian Mujahideen, he was hiding easily but was caught on his way to India.
