- Astronaut Rakesh Sharma told Indira Gandhi that Sare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara
3rd April 1984 is a day to remember when wishes and prayers for the success of Chandrayaan-3 are pouring in from all directions. Late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi asked astronaut Rakesh Sharma what India looks like from space. Rakesh Sharma replied that every citizen of India raises his hand to salute: Sare Jahan Se Achcha Hindustan Hamara! This is 39 years ago. India's Chandrayaan-3 will land on the surface of the South Pole of the Moon tomorrow, Wednesday evening, if all the equinoxes are crossed. It is certain that the whole of India, India's allies and supporters will gather at that moment.
Rakesh Sharma, who answered Indira Gandhi from space, is 75 years old today and is living a retired life in his native Tamil Nadu. As of April 30, 2022, there are 5465 satellites in space, of which 3433 are from America and 541 are from China. According to an estimate, 58 percent of the satellites orbiting the Earth are active. In 2022, the highest i.e. 155 satellites were launched into space, five of which failed. According to the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), there are 8261 individual satellites orbiting the Earth. From 2013 to 2015, ISRO made 101 million dollars by launching 28 satellites of the countries of the world.
Let's go back to Rakesh Sharma. He was the first Indian to go into space. He had a short talk with the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from space. The 'Sare Jahan Se Achcha' conversation between them has now become historic. A Soyuz T-11 rocket of Soviet Russia was launched from the Kazakh Soviet Social Republic. Rakesh Sharma along with two other astronauts stayed in the orbital space station for 7 days, 21 hours and 40 minutes. This mission was launched in 1982 as a joint initiative of ISRO and the Soviet Inter Cosmos Space Program. Rakesh Sharma was selected from India for that.
Similarly, Kalpana Chawla, an Indian native, went into space in 1997 as the first woman born in India. Six years later, in another space mission, seven astronauts, including Kalpana Chawla, died when the spacecraft broke up while entering Earth's atmosphere.
Sunita Williams should also not be forgotten at this stage. This daughter of a Gujarati father was born in Texas. She became the world's first woman astronaut who stayed in space for 195 days. Today they train astronauts going into space.
ISRO earned 101 million dollars by launching 28 satellites of the countries of the world between 2013 and 2015. India is making a splash in the space sector as ISRO has successfully launched several satellites of the country. India's other space missions have had more or less participation from other countries, but Chandrayaan-3 is entirely indigenous. World superpowers will have to salute India's success and appreciate India's space technology when the first Indian spacecraft lands on the South Pole of the Moon.
Every country wants to explore space. The superpowers of the world used to consider space missions as their fiefdom, but with the success of Chandrayaan-3, everyone is going to stop talking. What is on the southern side of the moon? Is there an ecosystem? It is believed that if there is water, there will be life. Chandrayaan-3 will start answering many such questions from Wednesday evening. As India's space achievement takes shape tomorrow evening, crores of countrymen will join in with bated breath.
