Trends in the coffee market and industry in the country have been reversed. With the lockdown over and the process of reopening gaining momentum, bulk consumers have re-entered the coffee market. Although tea is consumed more in the country, now there are indications that the currency of coffee is also increasing in Navi Pedi. As per the recent indications from such coffee market, the coffee production estimate is now lower than the initial estimate amid inclement weather in the country. The new coffee season in the country is scheduled to start from October. In this new 2022-23 season, the production of coffee in the country is now estimated to be 10 to 15 percent less than the previous expectation.

Sources in the government-owned Coffee Board said that such a situation was created due to excessive rains. Representatives of the Coffee Board recently visited the coffee growing areas and after conducting a survey, there are now indications that excessive rainfall has created fears of an adverse impact on the crop. Although a clear picture will be seen only after the rains stop, sources said that at the present stage, it seems that the coffee crop will definitely be damaged due to excessive rains. Some planters in the coffee producing areas have been seen showing fear that 30 to 40 percent of the crop will be lost due to excessive rainfall. "It is difficult to say at this stage and we are all waiting for the rains to stop," said coffee board sources. As compared to the preliminary estimate of the coffee crop in the post-blossom period, the informants were showing an average possibility that such an estimate could be seen as a setback of 10 to 15 percent at this stage due to excessive rains.

In the post-blossom period, the new coffee crop for the 2022-23 season has been estimated at 3.90 to 9.5 million tonnes, which is a record. In the current coffee season 2021-22, the crop in the country has been recorded as 3 lakh 40 to 45 thousand tonnes and against this, the 2022-23 crop was estimated to be around 14 to 15 percent higher in the post-blossom period. The new crop in the post-blossom period was estimated at 1 lakh 16 to 17 thousand tonnes for Arabica coffee and 2 lakh 75 to 80 thousand tonnes for Robusta coffee at the preliminary stage. However, now the new estimate has been lowered. In Karnataka, the new crop was estimated at 17 to 18 percent higher.

However, now a situation has arisen where new figures have to be put anew. About 65 to 70 percent of the total production of coffee in the country is produced in Karnataka alone. Meanwhile, Kodagu, Chikmagalur, Hassan Vs. Due to excessive rainfall in the coffee growing areas, pests and root rot, wet-feet type of diseases have also been applied in the coffee crop and as a result there have been reports of increased incidence of coffee fruit (berry) and leaf fall.
