Defuse the time bomb like Kashi-Mathura

- Each party is expressing its opinion

- Inside Story-Virendra Kapoor

History is repeating itself. This time the case of Gnanwapi Masjid-Temple has come to the surface. It is not an ongoing dispute like Ayodhya. 600 years ago, a mosque was built in place of the Shiva temple. In which there is talk of allowing worship in Shivandir.

When the Babri demolition incident took place on 6 December 1992, when car sevaks demolished the controversial structure, it was believed that the Worship Act of 1991 would never be violated again. Even though the act said that the construction which existed on August 15, 1947 cannot be tampered with, the temple-mosque dispute of Mathura and Kashi was much discussed.

In the controversy of the temples of Kashi and Mathura, it is the temple of Lord Shiva and Lord Lord Krishna. A few days ago, the verdict given by Varanasi District Judge AK Vishwesha regarding the claim of Jnanwapi Masjid has left the Hindu devotees in jail.

According to the case filed by five women petitioners, Maa Shringar Gauri and other deities were worshiped till 1993. Due to which it was concluded that the Places of Worship Act does not come in the way. The judgment said that the petitioner was only seeking permission to worship. Because till 1993 worship was done there.

A conclusion was also drawn from this judgment that now the Sangh Parivar and its affiliates will be able to raise claims for other controversial religious places and agitate.

It also says that Hindu organizations did not make much effort for the Mathura site. It is also a fact that the Places of Worship Act 1991 was said to need to be challenged. In which such controversies had to be put to a complete stop. A hearing challenging the act is pending in the Supreme Court.

Each party is expressing its opinion. Each party is insisting that they are right. Most are beginning to believe that now another religious site controversy will crack open and come to light. But an atmosphere has also arisen in the country that temple-mosque disputes should now be put aside because thousands of temples can be demolished and mosques can be claimed to have been built there. Some facts of our history cannot be forgotten.

The process of demolishing the temples and converting them into mosques is going to be very controversial, expensive and a waste of time. The important thing is that due to this, the peace can also be disturbed.

Actually, this issue has become a question of honor for both parties. Neither of the two parties are ready to accept that they are backing down, an entire society is being served by the fear of being humiliated. That is why the Muslim community is complaining about the Gnanwapi mosque built by demolishing the temple 600 years ago.

If you ask any Muslim scholar, he will say that mosques built on the sites of temples in some places are considered controversial by very few people. People who come there on faith have no idea of its history.

In fact, Hindus and Muslims should use their energy to eradicate hunger and poverty from society. Gentlemen from both parties should come forward and defuse time bombs like Kashi-Mathura without making it a question of honor.
