- Google reinstated eight of the ten delisted apps following protests on social networks

To recall, some time ago India's social media gave Maldives a major blow to its tourism. Maldives was put in a 'sorry' posture. A similar thing has happened with internet technology giant Google these days.

Google has unceremoniously reinstated the ten apps it had previously arbitrarily delisted from India. Even before the meeting with the Union Minister of Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav, Google was let loose. The Union Minister earlier said that we will take a decision in the interest of our start-up sector. At the same time, Google reactivated eight of the ten delisted applications. The process to launch the remaining two apps is said to be ongoing.

The Maldives episode saw a trend on social media to boycott this popular tourist spot. The same happened in the case of Google. The hashtag of #EvilGoogle started trending.

It is still fresh that Google has backed down on the AI platform Gemini and now the issue of delisting India's startup applications has come up. Among the applications currently available on Google, 1,51,767 apps have been created by Indian developers.

Google's move was met with opposition to such an extent that Google had to back down. The founders and executives of the canceled apps took to the fray on social networks. He gave strong reactions. Along with that, the hashtag #SaveOurStartups also started trending.

InfoAge, the maker of popular apps like Naukri, Spouse and 99 Acres, wrote that it opposes the policy of the Google Play Store. He also wrote a letter to Google. The company says that there is no pending bill of Google, we have paid all the bills on time. Competition Commission of India should take action against Google's arbitrariness. Internet Mobile Association of India has also opposed Google's arbitrariness.

There were allegations that the Internet giant Google Company was taking advantage of its monopoly. It is also being suggested that companies like Google and Apple cannot collect internet tax from 30 percent of India's developers.

By early 2024, 3.95 million apps could be downloaded by Android phone users. Google earns $58.1 billion a year due to its Play Store and games. About 13.8 percent of the applications on the Google Play Store are games, from which Google earns $31.3 billion a year. If any app has been downloaded more than hundred times from Google Play, then it is Tiktok. It has been downloaded 672 million times.

96.9 percent of apps on Google Play Store are free, while only 3.1 percent of apps are paid. After TikTok, Snapchat is the most downloaded app from Google. Google claimed that action would be taken against some Indian apps that did not follow its billing policy. After that, the sudden disappearance of ten Indian apps has created a controversy. Google may have snubbed app developers, but their decision has backfired.

India's Union Minister of Information Technology Ashwin Vaishnav launched a direct intervention and called Google officials for an explanation. Among the canceled apps, there were billing issues with very few apps. With Google reactivating eight out of ten apps on Monday morning, this phenomenon can be compared to India's strength on the global stage.
