India's Candidacy in Canada's Elections: A Cold War of Allegations

On the eve of January 26, the diplomatic relations between India and Canada have again strained. The cold war between India and Canada started with the killing of a Khalistan terrorist in Canada, which today has reached the allegation of election rigging. For the first time there was a controversy when the Prime Minister of Canada said that India was involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar and now the Canadian authorities have alleged that India is taking an unethical interest in the Canadian election process. In addition to India, China is also conducting a thorough investigation in Canada, which is scheduled to be heard from Monday.

The equations of global politics are changing. Amid talks of foreign factors influencing Indian elections, now India is also being accused of this. In Bangladesh's election, incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was disliked by America, but both India and China liked her government. The world then noticed that India and China had agreed on an issue for the first time. Now due to Canada's allegation, both India and China are back in a row.

Is Canada's federal commission investigating whether there was rigging by foreigners during the last two elections? There were attempts to elect a government that favors their country, right? A Canadian TV channel claimed that India and China are influencing Canadian elections.

Such reports indicate that the rift between Canada and India is widening. The Federal Commission of Canada has written to the Government of Canada that if there is any further evidence to suspect India's involvement in the election, please send it. Canada's CTV News has said in its report that China, Russia and India interfered in the 2019 and 2021 elections.

This kind of accusation is very serious for any country. The first hearing of the Canadian panel appointed to investigate the allegations will begin on Monday. There will be intensive scrutiny based on important documents like intelligence agency reports. The full report of the inquiry is due by the end of this year and the interim report by early May.

It is necessary to draw attention to an earlier incident. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's support for a Canadian candidate aligned with Chinese President Xi Jinping's government was revealed when he ordered an investigation into the leak of intelligence reports. Controversy does not remain without arising when the possibility of another country's involvement in the electoral process of a country is considered. By taking India's name, Canada is trying to please America.

The Canadian government has not yet sent any specific documents to its commission of inquiry regarding its allegations, but the cold weather between the two countries has flared up even more. India rejected the allegations made by the Prime Minister of Canada in the Nijjar murder case. Some US MPs supported Canada's allegations.

Of course, a section of the world believes that Canada sheds false tears over the death of a Khalistani terrorist, because a terrorist who is a threat to humanity has died, not a saint-mahatma. Canada had also imposed some restrictions on visas for Indians during the furor over the allegation of Mariana blowing up Niger. In the Niger case, Canada could not prove the allegations against India.

Allegations of Indian election rigging can damage India's global reputation. China immediately retaliated by raising the name of its country and told Canada that the relations between the two countries should not be damaged by making such baseless accusations.
