Confusion over the announcement of more relief in income tax

Confusion over the announcement of more relief in income tax

New Delhi: Along with the announcement of passing the budget of the central government, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced to give more relief in income tax, but without giving any explanation about it, confusion has been created. It was announced in the budget that there will be no tax on income up to 7 lakh rupees.

Nirmala Sitharaman announced that by adding to the income tax reliefs made in the budget, some more relief is to be given to the common people. Of course, he did not reveal how much the relief would be.

According to Finance Ministry sources, no tax will have to be paid on income up to 7 lakhs from April 1 i.e. after the implementation of the budget proposals from the new financial year. As per Nirmala's announcement, no tax will have to be paid on a little more than 7 lakhs i.e. Rs 7.20 lakhs or a little more. The government has not clarified how much this amount will be, so we have to wait for the government to issue a notification.

Can Rahul be disqualified by the President?

The Congress will challenge this decision in the High Court by raising the issue of violation of the constitution on the issue of disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha membership. Abhishek Manu Singhvi is going to fight the case on behalf of Congress. Singhvi claims that only the President can take the decision to disqualify a member of either House of Parliament.

According to Singhvi, the punishment meted out to Rahul has been done by the court but the decision of disqualification under Article 103 of the Constitution should be taken by the President of India. Under Article 103, the President of India has to consult the Election Commission before taking a decision to disqualify an MP. A circular has been issued saying that we do not need to approach the President in the case of convicting an MP.

Constitutional experts consider the point raised by Singhvi to be valid.

Dissatisfaction among Muslim-Savarnas over reservation in Karnataka

In Karnataka, the BJP government has canceled the special 4 percent reservation for Muslims and put them in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), not only the Muslims but also the upper castes. According to the decision taken by Basavaraj Bommai government, now Muslims will get reservation under EWS category.

Currently castes including Brahmin, Vaishya, Mudaliar, Jain are in this category. Among the Muslims also now economically weaker people like the upper castes will get the benefit of EWS reservation so Muslims will participate in the reservation for upper castes. There is a feeling that the BJP is not doing anything for the upper castes and now this decision will intensify the discontent. There is also dissatisfaction among Muslims due to cancellation of special reservation for themselves.

However, BJP is not worried about it. By playing the reservation card, BJP has increased the reservation of Vokkaliga and Lingayat, the two major castes and SC and ST, so BJP believes that the discontent will not be affected.

Congress does not believe in following the law!

The Arvind Kejriwal government has turned a bulldozer on the Congress headquarters in Delhi and is making fun of the Congress. Congress has remained silent on this issue while BJP leaders are sarcastically saying that Congress does not believe in following the law, so what else can be expected from it?

The Public Works Department in Delhi comes under the Aam Aadmi Party government. Because of this, some BJP leaders even quipped that Kejriwal did the first thing for the good of the people during his rule. Even on social media, people are taking a dig at the Congress by posting various memes. This issue has also been linked with the issue of disqualification of Rahul Gandhi.

Officials of the PWD department said that stairs were constructed in the footpath area at the Congress headquarters without the permission of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. This action has been taken to remove the encroachment, which used to block the footpath and make it difficult for people to walk.

No planned deployment in Congress satyagraha

Amidst the political battle over the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the post of Lok Sabha MP, people protested by satyagraha all day on Sunday. Of course, this satyagraha failed. Congress wanted to create a huge rally in support of Rahul but satyagraha did not take place in many states.

Congress had announced that this satyagraha would be held in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at every state and district headquarters from 10 am to 5 pm, but counting workers were present at most of the district headquarters. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party general minister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra staged a satyagraha at Rajghat in Delhi, so a good number of people gathered there, but there was not much gathering elsewhere.

According to analysts, the Congress can gain political advantage by making the issue bigger as everyone feels that Rahul's punishment was excessive but the Congress is protesting without any concrete plan so this opportunity is wasted.

The government slacked off on the pension scheme issue

The BJP has loosened up as it looks like the issue of the old pension scheme for government employees could be a game changer in the five state elections. The Central Government has prepared to review the New Pension Scheme i.e. NPS to improve it. A committee headed by the Finance Secretary will be constituted for the review. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has assured that this committee will take care of the interests of government employees considering the financial situation.

The BJP is furious that non-BJP-ruled state governments like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana have decided to implement old pension schemes linked to old dearness allowances. Due to this, the government has decided to adopt a new method for the evaluation of NPS.

However, employee unions say the central government is trying to mislead central and state employees by talking about a review. Despite many reforms, employees are not satisfied with the new pension scheme so the agitation will continue.
