The Sikh IPS officer Jaspit Singh, who tried to stop the BJP workers who were agitating in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, was called a Khalistani and the BJP has come to a defensive position. The Bengal Police Chief has claimed that the BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari, insulted the Sikh officer by calling him a Khalistani and shouted slogans. BJP has denied these allegations. The BJP has defended that neither Shubhendu nor any BJP leader used the term Khalistani for a Sikh official.
