Who will get what from Shiv Sena's wealth of billions?

- Fixed deposits of Rs 148.46 crore and fixed assets of Rs 186 crore: Shiv Sena's bank account is likely to have more than FD.

- Shiv Sena is not a national party like BJP or Congress so it doesn't have assets or cash spread all over the country but it has a lot of assets in Maharashtra. Many of these properties are located in cities like Mumbai and Pune, hence their value in crores. Controversies and fights have already started for it.

Uddhav Thackeray has approached the Supreme Court against the Central Election Commission recognizing the Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the true Shiv Sena and allotting the Shiv Sena election symbol 'Dhanushban'. The Uddhav Thackeray group has started a new chapter in the legal battle to dominate the Shiv Sena by challenging the Election Commission's decision in the Supreme Court. The Shinde group has also filed a caveat petition seeking no judgment in the matter without hearing them.

Amid this legal battle, the accusations between the Uddhav group and Eknath Shinde are still going on. Sanjay Raut, a special mandated MP from Uddhav, has alleged that Rs 2,000 crore was administered to allocate the Shiv Sena election symbol 'Dhanushban' by recognizing the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde as the true Shiv Sena. Shinde calls Raut crazy for saying this. Another leader of both groups is also making head-to-head accusations, causing political heat.

Media serves legal battles and political accusations with spice so people know about it but the third battle that started between Uddhav and Shinde group is not noticed. This fight is for Shiv Sena's wealth. Shiv Sena is not a national party like BJP or Congress so it does not have assets spread all over the country but it does have a lot of assets in Maharashtra. Many of these properties are located in cities like Mumbai and Pune, hence their value in crores. There will be a fight for it and also many disputes.

Sena Bhawan, the headquarters of Shiv Sena in Mumbai's Dadar, is worth crores of rupees. The Eknath Shinde group has said that it will not claim the Sena Bhavan itself and because of this the controversy has already started because the Uddhav group says that the Sena Bhavan is not actually owned by the Shiv Sena. Even though the Shinde group claims to have done the Qurbani itself, the building is not owned by a political party, so there is no question of meeting the Shinde group. According to the claim of Vishakha Raut of the Uddhav Thackeray group, the Shiv Sena Bhavan belongs to Shivaya Seva Trust and she herself is a trustee in it. Due to this, Shinde cannot take the Shiv Sena Bhavan.

Apart from Shiv Sena Bhavan, many other properties are in the name of Shiv Seva Trust and other trusts. A local office of Shiv Sena is called a branch. There are 87 such branches or offices of Shiv Sena all over Maharashtra. Among these, how many offices are in the name of Shiv Sena and how many offices are in the name of trusts is not clear, seeing that there will be a fierce battle for these assets and there will be disputes. Rather, the war has already begun. A clash broke out between the two groups over the army office of Dapoli taluka in Ratnagiri district.

Ramdas Kadam and Yogesh Kadam of the Uddhav Thackeray group claimed the office as their own, leaving the Shinde group workers stunned and a fight ensued. Ultimately the possession remained with the Uddhav group but many incidents will happen in the future. Eknath Shinde or other top leaders don't want to make a big deal of wealth tussle, but local workers and leaders lack understanding and restraint, so fights are bound to happen.

Among the assets that the trust has, there are only Shiv Sena leaders as trustees, but due to whether the loyalty of those leaders is now with Shinde or Uddhav, controversies and fights are bound to happen. There is no exact figure of how much wealth the Shiv Sena has, but it is officially estimated to be more than a thousand crores of wealth, so there is no point in arguing because of the Election Commission's order. There is a separate mechanism for disputes over the assets of trusts and in that too the two groups are likely to come face-to-face.

According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an organization that monitors the assets of political parties and politicians in India, Shiv Sena had fixed deposits of Rs 148.46 crore and fixed assets of Rs 186 crore in 2019-20. After that, there was a Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra for a long time and Uddhav Thackeray was the Chief Minister, so Shiv Sena's wealth must have increased enormously. Shiv Sena bank account is likely to have more amount than FD.

As per election laws, FD and bank accounts are managed under the signature of the treasurer of the political party. Now Shiv Sena is controlled by Shinde group so their treasurer will manage bank accounts and FDs. The Uddhav Thackeray group will have to wash their hands of whatever money they have in the bank.

Many leaders of the Eknath Shinde group say that we have no interest in Shiv Sena's property or buildings. We were only interested in getting the identity of the true Shiv Sena and the election symbol of the Shiv Sena. That's got it so everything else is secondary.

If the leader of Shinde group really believes that, it is good to say but there is a difference between what politicians say and what they do. Given that their chewing and showing are different, the question is how much to trust their word. There is also the fact that the mind of the good gets lost after seeing the wealth and all the doctrines and Sufian talks are left aside.

The Shinde group should talk about principles or actually act on principles.

Shinde group will also participate in 'Matoshri'?

Eknath Shinde will not sue Dadar's Sena Bhawan, but all eyes are on what decision he will make regarding Matoshree, the residence of the Thackeray family. Matoshree Balasaheb Thackeray had his own wealth. In his will, Balasaheb gave the first floor of Matoshree to his second son Jaydev Thackeray while the second and third floors were given to Uddhav Thackeray. He named the ground floor of Matoshree to Shiv Sena.

Balasaheb had no idea at that time that Shiv Sena would collapse after his death and his family would not have control over Shiv Sena. Due to this, he named Matoshree's floor in the name of Shivena in his will. The seat has now gone to the Eknath Shinde group following the Election Commission order. Matoshree's ground floor ownership rights have gone from Uddhav.

It is difficult to predict what decision Shinde will take, but it is unlikely that Matoshree's ground floor will be used by the Shiv Sena for reasons including security. It is also possible that the Shinde group waived their rights as a courtesy to the Thackeray family. It also happens that he keeps his possession but does not use it.

The Uddhav group will have to turn the corner anew

The Uddhav Thackeray group will have to reinvent itself as a political party. Decisions including allotment of new election symbols will be taken by the Election Commission, but apart from that, the Uddhav group will have to do a lot of work. From registering their new party to opening new bank accounts, the group has to do a lot of hard work.

Till now the management of Shiv Sena accounts was with the Uddhav group so everything was going smoothly but now there will be some demands including opening of new accounts. From creating the constitution of the new party to forming a new organization, there will be a shift. Uddhav has the men and the organization is also ready, but as the Election Commission termed the structure of Uddhav group as undemocratic, now they will have to carry out the campaign including elections.
