Congress is interested in opposition unity only if it gets leadership

The anti-BJP parties are keen to include the Congress in the anti-BJP front but there is no sign of the Congress abandoning its intransigent stance. While the opposition leaders are talking about unity to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has stressed on handing over the leadership of the opposition front to the Congress. Khadge said that his party is in talks with other parties and a Congress-led coalition will come to power. Mallikarjun Kharge hinted that the Congress may clarify its stance on opposition unity in the Congress convention to be held in Raipur. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently said that he is waiting for a signal from the Congress to work towards bringing the opposition parties together. Khadge's comments indicate that the Congress is interested only if an opposition front is formed under the leadership of the Congress.
