Delhi talk: Nath-Digvijay considered instead of Gehlot

New Delhi: With Ashok Gehlot showing conditional readiness to sit as Congress president, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi's group has started considering other names. Sonia is said to have asked former Madhya Pradesh Chief Ministers Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh to be ready to file their candidature. On the other hand, it is certain that former Union Minister Manish Tiwari will contest from the rebel group. Sonia has called Digvijay Singh to meet her immediately while Kamal Nath is believed to have spoken on the phone.

Sonia-Rahul wants to install Gehlot as President but Gehlot is not ready to give up the Chief Ministership of Rajasthan. Gehlot has made it clear that even if he becomes the Congress president, he will continue as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for some time. Confused by Gehlot's talk, Sonia called Rahul Gandhi to Delhi and discussed the options of Kamal Nath and Digvijay, sources claim.

On the other hand, Manish Tiwari has also started meeting state delegates of Congress in Punjab so that signatures of 10 delegates can be obtained to sign the form.

Rahul Gandhi angry with Gehlot's lust for power

Rahul Gandhi is said to be upset because Ashok Gehlot is not ready to step down as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Rahul told Sonia in clear words that, be it Gehlot or anyone else, the principle of one person, one position will apply to everyone in the party.

Rahul Gandhi also told this clearly to Ashok Gehlot, who came to meet him in Kochi on Thursday. Gehlot went to meet Rahul to convince him to sit for the presidency one last time but Rahul took his own class.

Expressing displeasure against Gehlot expressing his desire to hold both the presidency and the chief ministership, Rahul is believed to have told Gehlot that the principled decision of one person, one post in the Udaipur convention should not be compromised.

Gehlot argued that the presidency does not come under the purview of one person, one position. It is also said that Rahul, who was upset after hearing this, advised Gehlot to set up Adarsh. Rahul also said in the press conference that the Congress presidency is not just a position but an idea.

Elections in Gujarat-Himachal may be postponed

The Central Election Commission team has started preparations for holding the elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, but sources are expressing the possibility that the elections will be held in late January or February instead of December as the BJP has a tough uphill battle in both the states. The Modi government is still in limbo on the issue of holding the elections of Jammu and Kashmir along with these two states. Sources claim that Gujarat and Himachal elections will be postponed on the pretext of Jammu and Kashmir elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey have left Himachal Pradesh for a three-day visit from Thursday and have started reviewing the preparations by meeting top officials of the state. It is likely that Rajeev Kumar and Pandey will come to Gujarat on Monday after deciding to travel to Himachal Pradesh. The tenure of the Legislative Assembly in Himachal Pradesh will end on January 8, 2023, while that of Gujarat will end on February 23, 2023. The Election Commission can hold elections at any time within six months of the expiry of the five-year term.

Nitish-Lalu will convince Sonia to join the Morcha

Nitish Kumar has intensified his drive to unite anti-BJP parties ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. As part of this, Nitish and Lalu Prasad Yadav will meet Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on September 27. Nitish-Lalu will convince Sonia to put aside all differences and join forces with other parties to defeat the BJP. Both believe that without Congress there is no opposition unity and BJP cannot be defeated.

Nitish is scheduled to participate in a joint opposition rally in Haryana on Sunday. RJD leader and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav is also scheduled to attend the rally of Omprakash Chotala's party Indian National Lok Dal. NCP president Sharad Pawar, National Conference's Farooq Abdullah, Shiromani Akali Dal's Prakash Singh Badal, Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav are also expected to attend the rally in Haryana.

Nitish Kumar has refused to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Phulpur, but due to the insistence of Mulayam Singh and Akhilesh, Nitish can contest the Lok Sabha elections. It will be decided in Haryana rally.

Modi government to extend free food scheme

The food secretary of the country has given a clear indication that the Modi government will extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for six months to provide relief to the people who are in dire straits due to price hike and rising inflation. The scheme expires on September 30, but Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey has said that a decision will be taken soon to extend PMGKY even beyond September 30.

The government is undecided whether to extend the scheme for three months or six months. It is clear that the Modi government will give 5 kg free food grains to the poor for another three to six months.

If this scheme is extended for another three months, there will be an additional burden of 80 thousand crore rupees on the government exchequer. India has spent about three and a half lakh crore rupees on 'Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana' since April 2020. Modi criticizes the revdy culture but his own government is giving away lakhs of crores.

A stern message from Congress after beating Shashi

Congress leader Gaurav Vallabh on Thursday slammed Shashi Tharoor for his ambition to contest the party's presidential election, saying that Tharoor's only significant contribution to the party was that he had been writing letters to Sonia Gandhi, who was undergoing treatment in hospital. Its General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, who is in-charge of communications of the party, has said in a message sent to all the spokespersons and office-bearers of the party's communications department that "Don't make any kind of comment about any of our comrades who want to contest for the Congress presidency. We all have our personal preferences, but it is our duty to establish a democratic and transparent process for electing the party president, which only the Congress has, Ramesh added.

Classroom-Toilet Gathering: Fierce discussion ensued

Since 2017, 7000 new classrooms have been added in 141 government schools of Delhi. One laboratory equals two new classrooms, while one multi-purpose hall equals 10 classrooms. However, the mixing of classrooms with toilets and laboratories has created a huge controversy. Laboratories and toilets are the essentials of any school, but they cannot be considered classrooms. It is misleading to lump them together in toilets and laboratories. According to Tajjana, the value of a school is not based on the classrooms in it, but on the education provided there.

Ghost teachers: LG raising arms against AAP govt

Lieutenant Governor of Delhi (LG) V.K. Saksena has ordered an internal inquiry into the irregularities in the retention of guest teachers in AAP government schools and the embezzlement of funds for the payment of salaries of these 'ghost' teachers. The LG Secretariat has asked the Chief Secretary to suggest to the Director (Education) for immediate verification of the teachers engaged by the local self-governing body in its schools, their attendance and the amount drawn from the salary of all these guest-teachers. A status report in this regard is to be submitted within a month. Earlier, Sakse had allowed the anti-graft department to probe allegations against four vice-principals of Delhi government schools regarding embezzlement of funds in the name of non-existent guest-teachers.

Draft Telecom Bill enjoyable for Mahua

A paragraph in the draft Telecom Bill equates spectrum to Ajar (imperishable) and the immortal soul. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra was overjoyed after reading this paragraph. The Lok Sabha-Parliament said that they would take the Gita along to the Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting on the draft bill as Srimad Bhagavad Gita is essential reading material. He also implicated his parliamentary colleagues Shashi Tharoor and Karti Chidambaram (both Congress) and Thamizhachi Thanga Pandian (DMK MP) in the whole affair. The paragraph that made Moitra feel happy is on page 5 of the explanatory note to the draft telecom bill. “In a way the spectrum is like the ajra, the immortal soul, as described in the Srimad Bhagavad Gita. Like the soul, the spectrum has no physical existence, but is omnipresent,” the draft said.

A heavy fine for touching an idol of a Hindu deity

Residents of Ullerahalli village of Malur taluk of Kolar district, which is 60 km from Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, organized the Bhootayamma Mela. Dalits were excluded from this fair held at the temple of Ishtadev in the village. A 15-year-old Dalit boy standing on the way of the Lord's procession, which was held in connection with the fair, placed his hand on the pillar attached to the idol of Ishtadev. A villager saw this. He shouted and informed other villagers about the incident. The village elders decided that since the untouchable boy had touched the idol of God, the idol had now become desecrated. The community fined the 15-year-old boy's family Rs 60,000 for the boy's 'mistake'. Not only that, the teenager and his family were ordered to appear before the village elders.
