Talk of Delhi: Rajya Sabha elections today, excitement in four states
New Delhi: With the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for Friday, June 10, there is great political excitement. This time there were elections for a total of 9 seats but with 21 members uncontested, now there is a fight for only 15 seats. Four states - Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Haryana - are all set to go to the polls.
The main battle in these four states is between the BJP and the Congress. Both the parties have used all their strength to keep their legislators from exploding and money is flowing like water. Shiv Sena, Congress, BJP, NCP have sent their MLAs to resorts and five star hotels to keep them safe. His hospitality leaves no stone unturned but no one trusts him. The Congress is more worried about losing its MLAs as the BJP can do anything to win.
Voting will be held in all the four states by noon on Friday and the results will be declared by evening, so everyone's life will be high till evening.
NDA's hand in the presidential election
As President Ramnath Kovind's five-year term ends on July 7, Raisina Hill is gearing up to welcome the new president on July 9. The Election Commission has today announced the dates for the presidential election. This election will be held on July 16 and the result will come on July 31. The NDA needs the support of BJD and YSRP to win this election and it is working hard for that. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik and YSRP leader Jagmohan Reddy. But they have not yet endorsed him.
In addition to Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs, MLAs from the States and Union Territories vote in the Presidential elections. In terms of numbers, the NDA is far ahead of the Congress-led UPA coalition. The Congress-led UPA coalition has 5 per cent of the electoral college votes, while the NDA has more than twice as many votes as the UPA, or about 5 per cent.
Of course, if the opposition, including Mamata Banerjee and Naveen Patnaik, joins hands with the Congress, there will be a fierce battle. In this election, a total of 202 voters will be able to vote with 8 MPs and 203 MLAs. The whip will not apply in this election and voting will be completely secret so the BJP is confident of victory.
When to take action against the instigators?
Delhi Police has registered an FIR against a number of leaders, including Asaduddin Owaisi, for allegedly making provocative remarks. Police claim that legal action has been initiated against these people for hurting the feelings of people of other religions.
However, it is doubtful that any action will be taken against these leaders. Police are satisfied with registering FIRs on paper but there are criticisms that no action has been taken.
Corona Rising declares 28 districts red zones of the country
Concerned Modi government has asked the five states of Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to remain vigilant as corona cases are once again on the rise in the country. New restrictions are likely to be imposed in Delhi. At present, the positivity rate in Delhi is 4.5 per cent.
In the last few days, the number of coronavirus patients in the country has increased by 20% every day. After about three months, the number of new infections in the country has crossed 6,000, so the government is worried.
The Union Ministry of Health has declared 4 districts of the country as red zones due to the increase in coronary infections. The district has four districts in Haryana and Maharashtra where the weekly transition is more than 3%. Corona is growing rapidly in seven states, including Arunachal Pradesh, so they too have been asked to take urgent action. The Civil Aviation Department has also ordered that unmasked people be evacuated from the plane. If a traveler violates the Covid-12 protocol, it can also be blacklisted.
Sinajori on congressional theft in the Herald case
Following the ED's summons in the National Herald case, Congressmen are criticizing the announcement of Rahul Gandhi to protest when he appears on June 15. Many Congressmen are even calling the protest a ploy to steal.
Congress has asked all MPs to be present at the party office in the morning on the day Rahul Gandhi is present. Along with Rahul, all the Congress MPs are also likely to go to the ED office. The Congress wants to send a message that the party is with Rahul by using force against the ED's summons.
The ED has also asked Sonia Gandhi to attend but she has asked for more time to attend as she is infected with Corona. The Congress says that Sonia and Rahul have nothing to hide so both will respond by appearing before the ED. The Congress also quipped that Amit Shah was on the run from 2012 to 2014 but we have no fear so Sonia-Rahul will be present and abide by the law.
Electric car batteries will be cheaper
While the government is also worried about rising petrol and diesel prices, the Modi government is planning to increase the use of electric vehicles. As part of this, the GST Council will reduce the tax rate on lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries are currently subject to 18% GST. In addition, 3% GST is levied on the total cost of an electric vehicle. Instead, a single tax system is being considered, but at present the tax on batteries is likely to be reduced to 5 per cent. EV batteries cost about 5% of the total cost of an electric vehicle, so a reduction in GST on EV batteries will reduce the cost of the car.
The central government convened a meeting on Tuesday with members of the policy commission, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, heavy industry and other government departments to discuss ways to reduce battery prices. At the meeting, suggestions were made to reduce taxes and make EV batteries cheaper. Based on this, the policy commission will prepare a draft policy and send it to the GST Council.
