Involvement of a state chief minister in gold smuggling for the first time

Kerala's gold smuggling case has been raging for a long time but the main accused in the case, Swapna Suresh, has come up with a new twist due to the allegations made in court. Swapna claims that the gold smuggling involved not only Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his close associates but also Vijayan's wife Kamala and daughter Veena. Vijayan's entire family has printed crores of notes by smuggling gold from the UAE.

The allegations made by Swapna date back to July 2020. In fact, the smuggling of gold from the Gulf countries, including Dubai, to Kerala may have been going on for some years, but its price skyrocketed in 2020. A parcel from the UAE Consulate arrives at Trivandrum International Airport on June 30, 2020. Under diplomatic protocol, customs officials cannot open parcels for offices in other countries, but customs have been informed that the parcels contain smuggled gold.

Customs withheld the parcel based on this information. The Secretary General of the UAE Consulate called to release the parcel but the customs did not respond and the parcel was finally sent to Delhi. When the parcel was opened in the presence of a senior official of the UAE High Commission in Delhi, 20 kg 3 carat gold was found. Gold worth Rs 12.5 crore was hidden in the bathroom equipment. During the investigation, it was learned that the Secretary General of the Consulate had called to leave the parcel at the behest of Swapna Suresh.

Before Swapna, she was working at the UAE Consulate in Trivandrum. After his name was leaked, but he was picked up by the central agencies, he started scattering peas. Shivshankar increased. Shivshankar suspended and jailed in October. He was released from prison just a few months ago.

Swapna was also released on bail in November last year after spending 16 months in jail. Due to Swapna's confession while in jail, the names of other big heads also came out and many others were added. There was talk of Vijayan's involvement but no direct allegation was made. Swapna himself had mentioned Vijayan earlier.

Vijayan's direct involvement was also mentioned but never said in court. There is a difference between an interview given to the media or a statement given to the investigating agency. This time, Swapna has made allegations against Vijayan while standing in the courtroom of Vijayan's nominal court. According to Swapna, the link connecting Vijayan and himself was Shivshankar. Personally, he had nothing to do with Vijayan, but because of Shivshankar, he was connected with Vijayan. Apart from Shivshankar, Vijayan's secretary C.M. Ravindran, the then Chief Secretary Nalini Netto and Minister K.T. Jalil was also involved in smuggling.

Given that Vijayan is the Chief Minister of Kerala and the biggest leader of the Left, Swapna's allegation is huge. It is shocking that a Chief Minister is a mastermind of smuggling. Allegations of corruption are leveled against the Chief Ministers but this is the first time that a Chief Minister has been accused of smuggling gold. Smuggling is a betrayal of the country so the allegations of the dream have caused a stir.

Vijay has termed these allegations as nonsense. Vijayan says the spectacle is being staged as part of a political agenda. The BJP is conspiring to overthrow its government. As part of this, Swapna is being attacked by making camels. With the BJP government at the center and central agencies, including the NIA, investigating, it is easy for Vijayan to get his hands dirty by accusing him of political conspiracy.

Swapna has also told the court some cases proving Vijayan's involvement. According to Swapna, Vijayan was the secretary at the UAE consulate when he moved to Dubai in 2013. Shivshankar called himself and asked the Chief Minister to deliver a bag to Dubai as he had forgotten it. The dream claims that the bag was full of currency notes. Swapna also alleged that Biryani was sent from the UAE to the Consulate General's office for victory. The vessel contained not only biryani but also gold. The possibility of a bargaining chip around Vijayan's neck in exchange for Swapna's bail cannot be ruled out.

Swapna gets Rs 15 lakh a month for smuggling

The story of Swapna Suresh, who is accused of being involved in the smuggling of Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan, is film style. Kerala's dream marriage took place in 2009 in Dubai. Her husband had a bar and Swapna was helping him. When her husband's friend, a Malayalee actor, came to Dubai, Swapna had an affair with him. Swapna left her husband to live with the actor and returned to Kerala.

The two's relationship lasted for many years but the actor finally left her due to family opposition. Swapna came to Thiruvananthapuram in 2013 and started working in a travel agency. This led to a relationship with an Air India official. The officer offered him a job at Air India Sats, a joint venture between Air India and Singapore Airlines. Cibu complained to the CVC about the irregularities at the airport and Swapna made a false case at the behest of superiors. A criminal case has been registered against Swapna after this was proved wrong.

Swapna married Jaishankar in 2012. Swapna is said to have been involved in gold smuggling because of Jaishankar. He was offered a job at the UAE consulate by a smuggling syndicate. Swapna used to get Rs 15 lakh per month for this work.

Swapna had a personal relationship with the CM's principal secretary

There are also allegations that Swapna Suresh has formed a relationship with him to cultivate the trust of big heads. Swapna admitted to having a close personal relationship with Shivshankar, Vijayan's former principal secretary. According to Swapna's claim, Shivshankar took advantage of his situation, formed a relationship with him and even exploited him. Swapna has also admitted that she is very close to Shivshankar.
